G’day mates!
It was an EARLY and LONG day today, but a very fulfilling one. This morning we let the hotel at 4:30 AM in order to catch sunrise over Uluru. Unfortunately due to the showers from the night before, the sun never quite peaked through around sunrise (5:59 AM); however, the view of THE ROCK was still incredible. Following the sunrise viewing, we headed out to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and did the Valley of the Winds walk, a 7.4 km walk around a `couple of Kata Tjuta’s mounds. Even though it was early morning, it was still HOT (~90 degrees Fahrenheit)! However, we all finished the walk through the amazing site. Following this we headed back to the resort, grabbed some lunch, caught up on some things, shopped, and snagged a few more much needed ZZZZZZZs. After waking from our naps, we grabbed some snacks (= ice cream) and then went out to see sunset over Kata Tjuta which was phenomenal! The shades of red were so varying and different than that of the morning hike—truly an awe inspiring event. We then had a very nice dinner at Kuniya, a very yummy restaurant located near our hotel. Then it was time to pack and hit the hay for another early and long day tomorrow.
Seeing Uluru and Kata Tjuta really has made me think about my place in the world and how I (and everyone around me) interact with the environment…it is crazy, these HUGE rocks appearing out of nowhere that seemingly have their own personality and mood. However, these rocks and the surrounding bush provide homes to millions of animals from kangaroos and dingoes to ants and beetles and everything in between.
