G’day mates!
A nice relaxing morning started our day. Today was the first day in a while where we didn’t have an early activity planned, so we had a leisurely start by individually exploring Surry Hills and checking out some of the local area (shops, flea markets, etc.). It is remarkable how nice the people are here and what a cool, quaint suburb this is being as close to the CBD (central business district) as it is. After our leisurely beginning to the day, we went to our tour of the Sydney Opera House, which was phenomenal! The challenges that almost made one of the world’s greatest and most recognizable structures non-existent are remarkable. It is truly beautiful and after checking out the many foyers and three of the five theaters, we unfortunately had to part with our up-close and personal tour of the Opera House. Afterwards, we talked to family and friends from the footsteps of the Opera House and gave many of them a view of the city. Then we grabbed lunch and took a leisurely walk through shops and open-air markets around Circular Quay and The Rocks before climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Yeah, you heard me right; we climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge! It was amazing to climb up on the iron that spans Syndey Harbour to 300+ ft above the water. The views were crazy, everywhere from Manly to Parramatta (30+ miles in each direction) with PHENOMENAL views of the harbor itself and the Opera House itself. It really was a unique a cool experience. We then went to a Bavarian restaurant for dinner before coming back to our hotel and heading to bed in preparation for our long day of touring the Blue Mountains tomorrow.
